What's inside
The checklist works for WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and Shopify sites. The first five checks:
- Open your homepage on your phone. Load it on cellular data, not office Wi-Fi. Check that the menu opens, the phone number is tappable and nothing is cut off. Plenty of people look up a local business on a phone first, so this view matters.
- Send a test through every form. Submit your contact, quote or booking form with a real email address you can check. Confirm the message arrives and isn't landing in spam. Forms can stop delivering quietly after a password or email change.
- Confirm hours, holiday closures and address. Compare the hours on your site with your Google Business Profile, Yelp and any booking tool. Update ahead of holidays and any closures, such as days you close for heat, power work or a local event.
- Check phone numbers, emails and map links. Tap each phone number and email link. Open the map link and make sure it points to your current location or service area.
- Run updates, or confirm they ran. On WordPress, update core, plugins and themes after a fresh backup, then re-check key pages. On Squarespace, Wix and Shopify, review apps and extensions and remove ones you no longer use.
Plus:
- Make sure a recent backup exists
- Check the padlock and renewal dates
- Review who has access
- Click through your main pages
- Glance at speed on mobile
- Update one thing that shows you're active
- Check basic accessibility
- Look at search and analytics
- Write down what you changed
It is written for owners and office managers, not developers. Where a step depends on your platform, it says so. It's general guidance and can't guarantee a site is secure or error-free, but doing it monthly catches a lot.
